Pixel and Pixel XL Review : Google’s Android Phones
Google has come up with two new phones and has now opened them for pre-order. You can now pre-order these phones, Google Pixel and Pixel XL are now available on leading Indian online shopping site, Flipkart. However only the ‘Quite Black’ colour variant will be available in India as the other two colour variants, ‘Very Silver’ and ‘Really Blue’ are not available for pre-ordering yet.
These two models with their premium pricing are all set to compete with other smart phones like Apple iPhone 7, iPhone 7 Plus, Samsung Galaxy S7 and Galaxy S7 edge. These two devices, Google Pixel and Pixel plus are ‘Made by Google’ smartphones and will have the feature of in-built Google Assistant, which is also one of the major highlights of these two devices. These phones are filled with some new power pack features and can give it competitors a tough competition.
The phones have an aluminium and glass deign. Google pixel will be available for Rs. 57000 for 32 GB variant in India and the 128 GB variant will be available at the price of Rs. 66000. Talking about the second phone, Pixel XL, the 32 GB variant will be available for Rs. 67000 and the 128GB variant will be available for Rs. 76000.
Pixel and Pixel XL Specifications
The Google Pixel has a 5-inch full HD display and the Pixel XL has a 5.5 inch Quad HD display and yet both display are using super amoled panel and so we can easily expect saturated and vibrant colors. These new smartphones by Google are powered by Qualcomm Snapdragon 821 processor with 4GB RAM and two different storage variants, 32 GB and 128 GB.
Both of these phones have imprint fingerprint sensor and support USB C port for charging. Google Pixel has a 2,770 mAh battery because the Pixel XL has a bigger battery of 3450 mAh. Both of the smartphones have a 3.5 mm headphone jack.
Pixel and Pixel XL – Does the camera click well?
Google has advertised the camera as the USP of these phones and claims that these smartphones have the best camera ever made for a smartphone. These cameras also offer one of the best low light performances as compared to other options available in the market.
Both of the phones don a 12.3 MP rear camera with 1.55 micron pixels and f/2.0 aperture. Both of the smartphone’s cameras have EIS (Electronic Image Stabilization) instead of OIS (Optical Image Stabilization). Google claims that the former does a better job when handling low light situations as it is dependent on the software to compensate for handshakes, poor lighting and it will improve over time.
The rear camera also has a HDR+ mode which is expected to give an improved experience of bright daylight scenes and shadows. Google has also claimed that the camera has no shutter lag. The camera also has a SmartBuster mode that will be using the machine’s leaning to detect the best shot taken.
The first ones to have Google Assistant
These two smartphones, Google Pixel and Pixel XL are the first devices by Google to have built-in Google assistant. Google’s AI-powered voice assistant is the company’s fitting answer to other assistants like Apple’s Siri, Mircosoft’s Cortana and Amazon Alexa.
This Google assistant can keep track of daily meetings, appointments and send news, weather updates and find the user’s photos from Google Photos. The Google Assistant is also expected to get third-party app support in the future.
Just like in an iPhone, you need to long press the home button to activate Google Assistant. The company is expected to open Google Assistant to developers in December. It will also be exclusive for Pixel Smartphones for the time being.
How much can Pixel and Pixel XL hold?
One of the major problems smartphone users face is of storage. These 2 phones come in two storage variants 32 GB and 128 GB. Also, Google Pixel and Pixel XL users get to enjoy unlimited storage for photos and videos in Google Photos. The company says that a user can store everything in full resolution, even 4K videos on Google Photos. This unlimited storage space for full utilization can also be carried forward to the next device the user wants to user, once he or she decides to give up their Pixel device in future.
The best feature is that once the device is running on low space, it automatically starts deleting local versions of the photos on the device and back them up to the cloud, in full resolution. The user also has the option of downloading these photos back on the device. Another smart feature that Google has added is a smart storage feature which notifies the user to delete the apps the user has not used in a long time.
Both the smartphones, Google Pixel and Pixel XL, get the new pixel launcher which has some unique features. To begin with, when you hard press the phone dialer, you will see your recent contacts. The phone also gets a new layout for the apps in the launcher. Plus, if the users are not happy with the new launcher, they can change the launcher on the Pixel phones.
Data Transfer with ease.
These two smartphones come with a special data transfer option which will allow the user to shift all the data including Messages (iMessages are also supported), photos and other data from another android or IOS device to their new pixel smartphone. The company has added a quick switch adapter in the box and the adapter is compatible with most phones which are running Android 5.0 and up and IOS 8 and up.
Live in-built support
The two smartphones come with a 24/7 live support from Google’s customer service and the phone users will also be able to share their screen with the customer service so that there is easier and faster solution to the problems faced by the users. This share screen option also allows users to pause the screen in between of the chat with the customer service. Apart from the online support, the company will also have walk in customer servicing options for India as well.As for now Google had partnershiped with HTC to officially take out repair
